Stonehenge (2659)

[First published in Private Eye]

This drawing elicited an exchange of correspondence in the Eye‘s ‘Pedantry Corner’ section with readers debating whether the stones were being moved in the right direction. One thought not; the other argued the opposite. Actually both were correct (one in the spring and the other in the autumn). Which was which depends on whether the scene is in the northern or southern hemisphere.

The fact of the matter is, of course, that I gave it not a moment’s thought. I just have a slight unconscious bias to drawing figures facing to the left of the page.
