Here’s a small sample of my personal favourite cartoons. My work has appeared regularly in Private Eye for a few years and occasionally in other titles such as the Wall Street Journal (check out my page of recently-published gags).

Based on an idea by an American collaborator, Harvey Rachlin, this cartoon made it into the pages of Woman’s World:

Johnnie Walker’s progress

This cartoon, first published by Private Eye, was derived from one showing a single bottle on which the figure is supporting himself on a zimmer frame and labelled as ‘aged 82 years’ (that one itself later appeared in The Critic):

Invigilator training school

I worked part-time as an exam invigilator at our local secondary school. The experience inspired two cartoons, with this one appearing in Private Eye. The royalties from the Eye, and selling the original and a framed print, between them brought in more than my pay from the school:

Cheddar

Inspired by a routine shopping trip, this drawing made it into Private Eye and has sold a few prints as well. It benefitted from some critical advice from my daughter Georgia who suggested the mature cheddar’s eye-roll:
